Haughley Hoofers
Haughley Hoofers are a group of clog dancers from Haughley, near Stowmarket,
specialising in the North West tradition of morris dancing. These dances were
processionals from the villages and towns of Lancashire and Cheshire and were
originally danced by workers in the textile mills at such events as May
festivals and carnivals. The side was formed in the early 1980s and has
performed at street fairs and other local events. Easily identifiable in their
red dresses with blue/white striped blouses and bloomers, they have performed
at a variety of Folk Festivals in England, Belgium, Germany and France. They
have just returned from a very successful trip to the Dordogne as guests of a
French traditional dance group.
